The forest red-tailed black cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus banksii naso) are endemic to the southwest of Western Australia. Their status is currently listed as vulnerable as a result of habitat loss, fire, illegal shooting, and bees.
Welcome to our Australian Cockatoo images and species information. Australian cockatoos are as iconic as kangaroos and koalas, full of character and beauty. Belonging to the family “Cacatuidae”, there are 12 species in Australia with additional subspecies. Some species, like Little Corellas and Sulphur-crested Cockatoos, are declared agricultural pests in some areas. Others are on the decline and require conservation efforts to preserve their populations from further losses.
